Learning to drive...here are a few things that you need to know to get you started! You need to be at least 17 years of age to hold a UK provisional driving license and to legally drive a motor car on a public road. To apply for a provisional license you need to obtain a D1 application form from a post office. Complete this form with your details together with your fee and send it to the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency). Once you have received your driving license you can start taking driving lessons. Firstly let’s start by saying that most people are normally nervous about learning to drive for the first time. This is something that we understand and are familiar with, therefore we are here to put you at ease and to make you feel as comfortable as possible with our one to one professional tuition at your own pace. The most common question we are asked is, how many lessons do I need? There is no set answer to this as it varies from person to person, but we aim to work with our pupils at a pace that they are comfortable with. There is no gain in ‘running before you can walk’. Assessment Lesson – Our standard practice initially is to give you an Assessment lesson to evaluate the level of your ability to drive. Whether you are a complete beginner, have driven before, have already passed your Practical Driving Test, are looking to take a refresher course or an advance driving course for example the ‘Pass Plus’. Theory Test – Practicing your driving theory and hazard perception earlier on and whilst you are learning to drive could increase your confidence and improve your chances of passing your theory and practical tests. There are cd’s and videos available for you to practice your highway code and hazard perception. The duration of your driving test is approximately 40 minutes. Your driving test is based on driving safely, knowing your highway code and demonstrating this through your driving.
